Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a lively bunch that even through the difficulty of the pandemic they are excited for school and look forward to joining our virtual class. A reality in my students' lives are limited resources and limited experiences. While this is a reality, I aim to create a worldly view for my students and provide them books of different cultures and peoples. In providing them these books with diverse stories it would allow them to discover the diversity of people and diverse views that they wouldn't otherwise be exposed to. Exposing them at such a young age to the uniqueness of people and cultures would undoubtedly open a curiosity that I hope stays with them as they grow older.
My Project
These books will not only reflect characters that look like my students, but will also reflect stories that they can relate to as well. For those that they may not relate to the stories, it will expose them to realities that their fellow classmates live with. These books also include stories of diversity that may not be in the classroom but out in the world. Thus exposing them to other cultures at a young age, and helping them develop a worldly view that they might otherwise not gain until later in their lives.
