Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
he students in my classroom are eager to learn, passionate, and hard-working. They are an extension of my family; they inspire me every single day. My students come from different backgrounds and have very different learning styles.
Research shows that students thrive in a flexible seating classroom; their focus and engagement in the classroom has increased dramatically.
I would love to be able to provide my classroom with flexible seating; specifically floor cushions so that students who need movement in the classroom can have it. Having this seating will allow those to feel less alienated from their peers if available to all. I want to create a space that is inviting and inclusive of all types of students.
My Project
My students love to move around the room. Flexible seating has fundamentally changed the way that I teach in the classroom. My students enjoy the choice and freedom to move. My students learn in different ways, some enjoy standing, some sitting, some enjoy getting comfortable on the floor.
Right now my cushions are starting to fall apart from a whole year of use; plus the cushions are just not tall enough for my students to use with their floor height tables.
These cushions and seats will allow my students to have new seating to use with our floor tables; this allows my learners even more flexibility and choice in their day and in their learning environment. I have seen such an increase in focus and engagement with flexible seating, that I want to continue to foster it.
