Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try!" Students in my classroom are eager to learn, passionate, and hard-working. They are an extension of my family; they inspire me every single day. I want to encourage them to try their best, learn from their mistakes and start to see their full potential.
Research shows that students thrive in a flexible learning environment; their focus and engagement in the classroom increases and they are better able to cultivate their collaborative work skills.
I would love to be able to provide my classroom with flexible learning environment which includes mobile tables and chairs. Having this seating and tables will allow us to create fluid and changing arrangements that work the best for the particular type of lesson or activity.
My Project
One of the best aspects of our classroom is that we are always moving around. Students come to the floor for writing, they are in groups of 3 for reading, and groups of 4 for social studies. We are constantly moving around heavy desks so that we can have spaces in the classroom that work for whole groups instruction, maker spaces, and then back again for small group instruction.
Having tables and chairs that were mobile would help us not only create the learning spaces we need, but also cut down on transition times leaving more time for learning and creating!
For this project I wanted to replace our regular table legs with mobile legs for two of our classroom tables. The two sets of bases with casters will replace existing legs; transforming two of our current tables into mobile tables. This way, when we needed to move them around, they were easy and simple to use. We could simply push the tables out of the way when we need floor space, or push the tables together when larger groups needed to meet. The barstools will allow for students who want to sit at the higher seating options a place to do so if they get tired of standing.
I am excited at the endless possibilities of the projects, lessons, activities we can do when they have the space to work on them. This is a dream project for my class and me.
