"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." - Nelson Mandela
I am a second year Title I teacher, which means I work with our school's most venerable students.
My job is to work with the students in our school who are struggling the most in reading and math. It is my mission to make every day at school a special learning adventure. The students I am working with are often several years below grade level in reading and/or math. I am also taking on another role this year which is leading professional development for teachers as I test the waters of the world of instructional coaching.
My students' home lives may not be ideal, but I make sure their classroom life is everything and more that they could have ever imagined. I serve a diverse population of learners. I teach in a Title I school, and 98% of the students receive free/reduced-price lunch.
My Project
I am asking for help with getting 20 read-aloud picture books in the hands of my students.
My students are diverse, and the books they read should be too!
I am so excited about the idea that I can get books into the hands of my students with characters that actually look like them. Books with Hispanic and African-American lead characters are powerful, and my students need to hear and see these books. I am asking for books with strong female leads and a heavy emphasis on science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics!
I want to grow and expand my classroom library with books that fit the needs of my students. Thank you for reading this and taking the time to learn more about my students.
