Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach reading and writing to 75 6th grade students that all come from very diverse backgrounds. My goal as a teacher is to make sure that every student feels represented in my classroom, and it is my hope that by reading picture books that highlight different cultures and nationalities students will make greater connections with texts.

These diverse picture books can help my students learn story elements, theme, figurative language, and narrative writing all while connecting with characters in the text.

I believe students would take a much greater interest in reading if they make those deep connections with characters and stories. What better way than to try to ensure that all students have a book in my classroom that they connect with?
