Help me give my students diverse books for their literature circles! These books were chosen to spark questions and conversations about today's hot topics.
My students are middle schoolers who observe the world around them and have lots of questions. Every day they are taking in the events of the world and trying to figure them out. They have questions and concerns and they want to discuss them!
One of the best ways to get my students talking and thinking is through the use of books!
We read books that make us question what we know, that make us think and allow us to relate to the world around us.
My students like good books. They like interesting books that aren't predictable or simple. They want to be challenged. They want to make connections. And they want to ask "what the heck just happened?!"
My Project
Students need choice when it comes to reading. They also need diversity! By purchasing these books, students will be exposed to new authors, genres, and topics they have not experienced before. These books will also spark important conversations about what our world looks like today and how it is reflected in these texts! Offering choice in reading with modern-day books that kids can connect to, allows students to enjoy what their reading and stop seeing reading as a chore or something they have to do. Instead, they see it as something that makes them think, wonder, and engage with those around them!
