My students need printer ink, charging cables, headphones, classroom supplies, stylus, batteries, VGA cable, markers, and essential oils for a calm, productive classroom.
My Special Education class is made up of Emotional Disturbed, Autistic, and Learning Disabled students. My students live a community of turmoil and often cope with several problems at once. These stressors include economic hardships, poor nutrition, inadequate health care and emotional issues. Our students often lack the structure and support systems to manage life events. Not only would my 50 students benefit, but the whole student body would have access to these resources during our lunch time clubs, to support the practice of mindfulness.
We are a small district with one comprehensive high school and do not have access to a variety of programs and electives that bigger districts offer.
My goal is to bring the world of positive mindset to my special education students. My vision is to integrate multi-sensory lessons by teaching real life skills, a growth mindset, and mathematics. Most important, encouraging 100% engagement 100% of the time is our goal, which will help to bring learning alive. Students will acquire new skills that will increase productivity towards their post secondary options.
My Project
Students who learn to show empathy, compassion, patience and generosity will be better able to attain a growth mindset, which will help them with the resiliency and productivity. Having researched the essentials oils, I have found that they are very helpful in student learning. Calm communication skills create the foundation for all other learning.
The esentail oil diffuser, batteries, ink, headphones, and charging cables will be used for our Chromebooks and multimedia presentations; at the high school we have a high demand for printing, recording, and transferring digital files for multimedia learning and presentations.
If we are able to receive the resources to support learning and practice mindfulness in our classroom, research assures that all students will have improved skills in self-management, self-awareness, social awareness, and responsible decision making.
My students all have IEP goals and we work on them every day. Helping me to achieve this goal will set my students on the path for a productive life!
