Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach Occupational and Life Skills curriculum at a large, urban high school.
My students have a range of disabilities including learning and intellectual disabilities, visual and hearing impairments, autism, as well as health and other physical impairments. Many of them are also English Language Learners and almost all of them come from low-income households. My students show greater enthusiasm and achievement when learning is interactive, interesting, and includes technology and high-interest reading materials.
My Project
My diverse learners need to practice their cash handling and customer service skills. This project will supply my classroom with 18 cash drawers. We already have play money to work with, but they need to learn the fundamentals of putting together a drawer on their own.
My students need to practice counting back change to customers.
I teach a high school life skills class and most of my students have stated that they feel uncomfortable applying to a job that they will have to count back money. If this project gets funded, we will be able to work on the skills that they will need to be successful in a retail or service industry setting.
