My students need an organized classroom library filled with books calling their names.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
My school is located in a low-income area: 90% of my students qualify for free- or reduced-price lunch. It is also an immigration hub. I have students from Samoa, Somalia, Vietnam, Mexico, and many other nations. Over 50% of my students are still learning English as a second language. Despite the barriers in their lives, my students have a zest for life and for learning. They are wise and insightful. They have grit and want to do well in life and school.
"The gift of good literature is that it begins difficult conversations." -Chinelo Okparanta
A classroom needs a library that has good literature to begin the difficult and necessary conversations about life and the world around us.
This project will provide an organized and relevant classroom library filled with diverse authors and diverse characters for students to read. Your donation will allow for students to check out books daily in their own classroom and be immersed in literature that makes them feel deeply, think deeply, and question deeply.
The books of this project were chosen because my students need to see people like them in literature, see people like them have a voice that deserves to be heard, and see people like them in positions of power and success. Good literature in the hands of fourth graders unleashes this potential.
