Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low-income families in Detroit, MI. They are sweet, energetic, and eager to learn! These students come from diverse backgrounds. Some are bilingual or learning English as a second language, and they have various needs.

My school is a positive and energetic learning community with students who love school.

My students love to learn and get excited about coming to school. I want to provide all of my students with materials that are best suited for their needs.

Our public school bends over backward to help our students as much as possible, but budget cuts have severely cut funding. I can't afford to give them everything they need.

My Project

As a teacher, I strive to bring a variety of books to my students. My kids love reading and they beg me to read more books to them daily! My students need to be exposed to diverse, inclusive books. This month, I am requesting diverse books in honor of Black History Month. I would like to give my students anti-racist, inclusive books that highlight people of color. The books that I chose have positive messages about diversity and inclusion.

"Knowing the past opens the door to the future."

I teach at one of the most diverse schools in the country. It is important that my students see themselves in the books in our classroom library. The books that I have chosen are books that my students will absolutely enjoy. I also want my students to see that they are readers. I am also requesting squishies to help us celebrate in class!
