This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are hilarious and love learning. They just need exposure to resources so that they may flourish. I have come to the realization that the students just need to be hooked so that they can choose to commit. I have introduced my kids to many different activities over the past years.
With each new activity, my students have taken ownership, loved it and met my expectations!
I have had fun introducing them to new academic vocabulary and also having them remind me of activities and goals we have set for the classroom. There are days when I totally forget things and they remind me OR they even mimic my oral language. When they do this, I know that what I do matters and they are really internalizing lessons and conversations.
My Project
This project is to start a diverse library at our school for all classrooms. The books included in this project are in English and Spanish. This collection includes books with images of people from many races and ethnicities.
These books teach about loving yourself, accepting differences within classrooms and schools and also socio-emotional health concepts, such as recognizing emotions in ourselves and others AND activities to help self-monitor and attempt the tasks at hand.
So often, students decide that they cannot do something that is hard and refuse to try. This project is an option to teach and model to our entire school that diversity is important and will be celebrated on our campus!
