My Students

My classroom is in a title on school. I pull small groups into my classroom multiple times a day they are filled with twelve, fun loving, special education children. We are a diverse class with several different backgrounds and abilities. The students have a wide range of disabilities including developmental delay, specific learning disability, and autism. With the wide range of disabilities we have in our room, your support would go towards materials that will help build foundational learning skills needed to master grade level standards.

Opening up the minds of special needs children takes creativity and imagination.

The typical student in my class reads significantly below grade level and also struggles with number sense. This can be very discouraging and frustrating, so having fun, interactive learning activities, really helps to keep them engaged and excited about learning. My special education classroom is where my students receive instruction in math, reading, writing and social skills, but without the right tools to teach my students, it is difficult to keep them engaged.

My Project

I want to add some racially diverse books to our classroom library. It is important that my students see children that look like them in the books that they read as well as characters that they can relate too.

As a Student I did not have much (if any) diverse literature in my classroom, and I want my classroom to be different.

I grew up reading stores of children that didn't look like me or I couldn't relate to. Having these books will promote positive learning outcomes by having different and divergent perspectives.
