My second-grade class is made up of a group of amazing students that come from different economic, cultural, religious, and social backgrounds. Their love for learning can be seen in their school work, their collaboration with their peers, and their willingness to keep trying no matter what their personal obstacles might be.
We are a tight classroom community, based on respect, open communication, and a willingness to grow and learn from each other.
I am honored to be their teacher!
It is important that literature used in school reflects the racially, culturally, and socially diverse backgrounds in which students come from. Students need to feel safe and comfortable at school. Surrounding them with a library that reflects their families, homes, and backgrounds can help them feel accepted and appreciated.
This diverse library will help students see themselves in literature, as well as learn and respect the similarities and differences between all people.
As we return to school virtually, this collection of new books will help our class bond and come together as a classroom community.
