My Students

This past week, my sweet new students and I began our school year together. I'm super excited to teach such a diverse group of kids! My students and their families have come to the US from around the world: India, Iraq, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Russia, the Ukraine, China, and Mexico. I would love to be able to provide my students with culturally diverse books that represent their countries and backgrounds.

"Ultimately, America's answer to the intolerant man is diversity, the very diversity which our heritage of religious freedom has inspired." -Robert F Kennedy

My Project

I'm raising funds to buy 50 new diverse books for our classroom library. It's so important for students to see themselves and their families reflected in the texts that we read together throughout the school year. Especially with the current state of political affairs in our country, it's essential for our students to learn about other cultures and communities and foster connection, empathy, and love.

These books will be used during whole-group read-alouds and include titles that reflect the ethnicities and communities of my current students.

I've aimed to include titles that authentically honor the unique lives of my students and that don't simply provide a stereotypical representation of their culture.
