This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the pleasure of teaching 30 marvelous third graders in an inclusion classroom. My school is a Title I school located in Indianapolis, Indiana. About 81% of our students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Our students live in low socioeconomic neighborhoods and often need extra support.
Despite the many challenges my students face, they come to school ready to learn!
My goal is to help develop students into lifelong learners who are ambitious about setting and meeting goals.
My Project
I want to make sure my class library is reflective of the students that are in my classroom. Books serve as mirrors and windows! Diverse children's books will allow my students a chance to reflect on their own lives and learn about the lives of others. These books open up the door to great discussion and new understanding.
Every student deserves to see themselves in the books that they read.
My students are more engaged and excited to read when they are able to make personal connections with the characters.
By helping to fund this project, you will help my students grow as readers, thinkers, and good citizens!
