Each school year brings many opportunities for my students and me to learn together! I am a fifth year teacher, eager to face the challenges and reap the rewards of teaching in a public school. My kiddos come from a background of high poverty. We are a Title I school, and nearly 80% of our population qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch. Despite these challenges, our school has been rated "Excellent" by the state of Ohio.
Many of my students come to school without full bellies, supplies, or educational background knowledge.
Still, what they do come to school with each day is priceless: a strong desire to learn and grow. As a teacher, I not only provide them with content knowledge, but school supplies, a developing love of learning, and sometimes, even their basic needs.
In each one of my students, I see great potential and endless possibilities. By helping with this project, you're helping my students reach their many goals!
My Project
Today's public school classrooms are made up of learners from diverse backgrounds and home lives. One of my major goals for this school year is to continue to provide books and other resources that not only represent my students, but expose them to different peoples around our country and world. Including more diverse texts in my classroom library is the perfect way to make our world a little smaller and brighter.
For many, school may be the first experience students have to embrace other races, religions, and cultures; I want to be a part of that journey.
The stories of diversity I've chosen for this project teach valuable lessons of respect and understanding. By helping with this project, you will be fostering classroom conversations that will help my firsties better understand each other and our world. This literature is sure to help my kiddos become kinder and more considerate children, paving the way to a better future!
I have requested many diverse children's book as well as a bluetooth microphone to ensure our positive messages are heard and to give students confidence in speaking about their backgrounds. I have carefully selected books that are appropriate and engaging for my young learners. Thank you for considering a donation to my classroom!
