Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach two English Language Arts classes for 2nd grade and every day is a new adventure. In my classroom, I strive to create an environment where students are engaged and think critically.
My students are always eager and ready to learn for the day.
100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our students come from a variety of different backgrounds, experiences, and opportunities. Our diversity allows us to have a wide array of experiences which can be drawn upon by creating an engaging classroom environment where all students are able to focus and thrive. Student success is our number one priority.
Many of my students enjoying reading and are always asking for silent reading time. I love to see their excitement for reading and they are always motivating me to be the best I can because they deserve the best!
My Project
These books will be used in individual lessons as anchor texts to teach students about great American heroes who stood up for the rights of others.
Our students need more diverse books to teach them about the history and those who fought for civil rights, against slavery and did extraordinary things that set the path for us to have a better life for everyone.
We would also like to do a novel study on Jackie Robinson. This book will interest both boys and girls and help teach about the civil rights movement. It will give each child a special meaning of how hard Jackie Robinson had to overcome just because he was an African American. How he was able to be one of the best baseball players of our time.
