My Students

I have been teaching at the same school for the last 19 years, and every year is better than the last. If I had to describe my students in one word, it would be amazing!

My kindergarten students are determined, dedicated, enthusiastic, and engaged.

We are in the midst of our year-long journey of learning, full of new experiences and challenges. I know that they are willing to work hard, take risks, and make incredible progress.

Every year I teach my students important information like how to read and write and do math problems. And in the end, they teach me some pretty important things, too. Like how to enjoy the moment, show empathy and understanding for each other during difficult times, be flexible, conquer challenges, power through difficult situations, and how to be resilient. I am lucky to have them!

My Project

I teach kindergarten, which means that my classroom is my students' first experience with school. Our school is large, urban and diverse - and I want my classroom to represent the diversity we see in our school and community.

This project is for biographies of diverse heroes.

My students might be little, but they are very observant. They have diverse experiences and I want the books we read together to mirror that diversity. I want my students to look at the books we read together and see themselves in the characters and stories. These books are all Little People, Big Dreams biographies - which are perfect for kindergarteners - because they are accessible, accurate and colorful. They present important information in a way that is digestible to young students. These books are about such important heroes as Michael Jordan, Nelson Mandela, Amanda Gorman. These books will allow my students to read their stories and think "I can do great things, too!"
