Diverse Authors for Diverse Students!

Help me give my students books from diverse authors. I have a diverse class and we need books that we can identify with. Jason Reynolds is awesome and I can't wait to get my kids reading his books!

My Students

I have the hardest-working class. My kids give their all to everything that they do, persevere through challenges, and are working on developing a great growth mindset. They will make great community leaders one day, and I am always so excited to see how they tackle problems.

My students bring unique backgrounds and experiences to our classroom every day and our diversity in academic, social, and economic needs is what makes us so well-equipped for the future.

We love learning together and are always looking to stretch our thinking in order to demonstrate our learning in a variety of ways.

My Project

I teach at a very diverse Title I school in Beaverton, Oregon. Our students represent a wide range of cultures and ethnicities. We have students whose families come from Iraq, Somalia, India, Guatemala, Yap, China, etc. That said, most young adult authors are white and many of the books that students are exposed to have white main characters.

Help me bring more diversity into our library through award winning authors and rich young adult literature.

Jason Reynolds is one of my favorite authors of all time. My students can't get enough of his Track Series. We have all of the books in the Track series, but I want to expose them to his other works as well.

This project is for a few copies of each of Jason Reynolds' books. I want to have students read the books and decide which ones would be best for us to purchase as class sets so we can do deeper novel studies. By contributing to our project you are giving my students an opportunity to engage in their reading in more meaningful ways.
