This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are bright, diverse, and curious group of students! They enjoy exploring and venturing out to quests that explore who they are and what's around them! What makes this possible is the school's culture that focuses on incorporating our community as much as possible. As a teacher, I strive to build a learning community in the classroom that is student-centered and where students strive to become independent thinkers.

The majority of my students come from low-income families and as a result, some of them rely on our school for food and shelter.

This is one of the reasons why I focus on building relationships with my students where they feel safe and welcome. As a first-year teacher, my hope is to instill the joy and excitement in learning in my students' heart.

My Project

In second grade, students are going through a transition from learning how to read to reading to learn. One of the ways we help students make this transition is through the use of chapter books.

However, my classroom library is currently lacking chapter books that catch the attention of my 2nd grade students.

The reason for this is because the characters in the story don't reflect the lives of my students. I created this project to hopefully solve this problem.

In this project, I included very diverse books such as Zoey and Sassafras, Yasmin, Sofia Martinez book series and Sadiq book series! These are just a few book series I have in my project as well as comic books. Please help support my students feel represented in the books they read!
