My students need more reading selections for my class. Everyday students have DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read).
This project expired on June 20, 2014.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
I teach 8th grade Language Arts Bridge to Advanced Placement classes in Florida and my students have a desire to read but are faced with a less than sufficient source of books in my classroom.
Everyday my students have DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read) and numerous students have expressed desire to read the Divergent series.
I have The Selection already and students who have read that desperately want to the next book, The Elite.
Every year I teach a Holocaust Unit with Literature Circles and I want to offer The Boy in the Striped Pajamas as an option, but some students have trouble buying their own copy of the book.
Students read 20 minutes a day in homeroom and are required to compose a book report for each 9-weeks of the year. I really want students to enjoy reading and pick a book that they will have an interest in. From what my students have expressed, their interests include the Divergent Series, The Selection Series, and Holocaust-themed books.
I honesty believe that reading something that my students enjoy will improve their vocabulary, reading comprehension, and overall love of reading.
Having these selections in my classroom will provide that opportunity for them.
