Help me give my students a soft place to sit when learning together on our Into The Deep classroom rug. Also, help me create a special underwater reading space to help motivate reluctant readers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I would like to start with a quote, “Everyone should have the opportunity to learn in a positive environment, to enjoy the learning process, and feel comfortable and content within it.”-Barry Saide. I couldn't agree more with this idea.
Creating a positive classroom environment can make the difference for so many students that walk into a classroom.
However, achieving the positive classroom environment can be costly.
My students are hardworking, thoughtful, and creative. Many of my students come from low-income households. Most of my students are from single-parent families. Many of my students experience physical or emotional trauma outside the school day and my classroom is the best place for students to relax, learn, and be safe.
A large majority of my students are low academically. They are not at grade level in reading or mathematics. Creating a positive classroom environment will engage, motivate, and develop student learning in all subject areas.
I'm excited to see the growth that occurs for each of my students' progress as the year carries on due to the warm classroom environment that you helped me to create.
My Project
The classroom rug will provide a welcome soft area for students to sit on during whole group lessons. The Into The Deep rug will be a shared community space for students to gather, express ideas, make connections and build a deeper understanding of content.
The canopy, pillow, and backdrop will transform my library into an underwater sea cave, a place where children can relax while reading.
Transforming my library into an underwater sea cave will motivate even the most reluctant of readers during our literacy block, providing them with the reading practice needed to be successful in the second grade.
