This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students love to learn and are excited to participate in fun, creative projects. The majority of my students come from low-income households. We have a 70% free and reduced lunch rate, so keeping their interest in school is important. They're used to not having enough supplies, or money, to do the things we really want to do as a class.
We try to keep the class energetic and rigorous!
My students love projects involving creativity, such as making historical music videos, rap battles, and art projects. They also love to create skits and debate.
My Project
Over the past year, several schools have piloted programs which take phones out of the classroom. They have seen increases in student engagement, socialization, and quality of work. Phones have been proven time and again to be distractions - but teachers can't take them up if there is no way to safely store them. This locking cabinet will allow me to safely store cell phones out of student's hands during my class.
Safely locking up student phones will end the distractions of social media and texting.
Without phones to hide behind, my students will be able to actually engage with their small groups and collaborate. Students will also focus on their work, instead of trying to finish quickly for the sake of using their cell phone. Please, help me purchase a safe solution for the cell phone problem.
