I have fifteen preschool age students in my classroom. My students are a mixed age group of three, four, and five year olds. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, my students have been home since March 16, 2020. At this time, we are unsure if we are able to return this current school year. New Jersey is one of the states that has been greatly affected.
I would love to be able to provide an at-home learning bag for each one of my 15 students. I chose two materials that I feel will serve more than one purpose. The playfoam shape and learn alphabet cards will be beneficial for my students in the following ways:
shaping the play foam will help with fine motor skills
2. letter recognition
3. phonological awareness: beginning sounds of letters using the picture
4. directional vocabulary using the arrows to create the letter.
The second material that I selected is creative colored cube sets. I selected this for the following reasons:
1. one to one correspondence counting
2. comparing sets: more/less/equal
4. identify colors
5. block building
6. critical thinking using the cards
7. fine motor skills
I am fearful that my preschool age students will regress during this coronavirus pandemic. It is common for children at this age to easily loose skills if there is a change in exposure. I intentionally selected materials that are versatile and that my students would not have at home.
