Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
On March 12th, my students left the classroom for a long weekend and won’t be returning again this year! They are from a low income, urban setting! They look forward to coming to school every day and especially at the end of the year as fifth graders will be leaving their elementary school and moving on to middle school! We typically have many fun events planned for our students who have worked so hard, but this year will be much different!
My Project
My students don’t have many of the basic supplies at home like colored pencils! With some newly donated mindfulness coloring books coming their way, I would love to also provide them with new colored pencils!
Coloring is said to relax the fear part of our brains!
I am sure that there is some uncertainty and fear in all of our students right now! Hopefully these will help ease some of that! Lastly, the sidewalk chalk will be an added form of creativity for them to use outside in the fresh air! I’m hoping they’ll even pay it forward leaving some uplifting messages out for our essential workers during this time!
