This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We are sixth grade special education and we are family! My scholars live in a community that is plagued with poverty and violence. They have been exposed to ongoing trauma and generational poverty.

Normally, our classroom is their safe space - A place where students can relax, be themselves and explore their talents and interests.

Our classroom is a safe haven and students look forward to coming to school every day.

Our country’s current situation and our school’s emergency closure means that our scholars do not get to experience this feeling.

My Project

When our project is funded, I will have all of the tools necessary to provide my scholars with a quality “distance learning” experience. The document camera will allow me to share documents directly related to IEP goals and to create online videos that scholars can access 24/7. The copy paper will be used to create personalized learning packets that will be mailed home (for students who do not have access to technology) each week. The other items will be used for online tutoring sessions each day. These learning tools will help level the playing field for our scholars who do not have what they need.
