Students, staff, and families at our urban Ohio middle school are experiencing distance learning for the first time. We are committed to each other and are all doing our part to establish our new roles. Our district was able to distribute Chromebooks to students over the past few weeks and we are well on our way to establishing our new normal.
In many ways, although we are physically apart, we are together more than ever.
We are Ohio strong and we will get through this together.
My Project
As everyone is acutely aware, we are living in different times. Ohio schools are utilizing distance learning until at least May, with the possiblitiy of even longer.
Our students and their families need our support now more than ever.
Families are overwhelmed and they need to feel confident about their ability to provide support for their student's education. As educators, we need to find innovative ways to deliver our lessons. Most importantly, these lessons cannot add more stress to an already stressful situation for families.
This project will allow me to purchase lessons from Teachers Pay Teachers. The included lessons address both music and social-emotional needs. Many of our families support their musicians but many are not musicians themselves. The lessons here will be accessible to all families, regardless of music experience. The social-emotional lessons address items like adversity and worry while offering techniques to manage them. We need to ensure the social-emotional needs of our students and their families are being met in addition to content knowledge. Finally, a student binder, which can be printed or used digitally, will help students and families to manage this new situation.
With the proper support, our students can use this unique time in history to grow into adults that understand adversity, are willing to meet challenges, and develop innovative ways to change the world for the better.
