This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students have autism spectrum disorder. They have family members that are sick with the coronavirus. They are accustomed to seeing me everyday and using certain manipulatives to help them learn. My students are very visual and love using their hands. They are so creative.
My students with autism are currently learning at home through cell phones, tablets, or laptops through a Microsoft Teams app.
The unfortunate part of this distance learning is that not all of my students have access to any type of electronics. There are some students that live in group homes that do not have any resources for them to join their classroom.
My students have parents that are laid off work in this crisis. Some of the families are struggling to keep food on the table. They do not have transportation to get to any of the food banks. Some of my students are lacking the basic personal resources they need.
My Project
The body wash, shampoo, deodorant, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, and mouth wash will give the students resources to use at home as I continue to teach them life skills virtually. The students will be able to use these resources every day as they are taught what to do with each product.
The cereal, noodles, crackers, popcorn, fruit snacks, and juice will keep my students energy level up as they are being taught via the cell phone, tablet, or laptop.
These resources will help out my students' families who are all unemployed during this pandemic.
The puzzle books, jigsaw puzzles, coloring books, drawing book, crayons, and color pencils will help students have art and free time. My students are very creative and they love to create beautiful colorful pictures. These resources will allow them to have fun while learning .
