Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work at a Title I school serving a self-contained special education classroom. My fourth, fifth and sixth grade students are impoverished, and school breakfast and lunch are sometimes the only food they receive for the day.
The majority of my students have specific learning disabilities and autism.
As such, they are academically at a first grade level in reading, writing, and math. They also have emotional and behavioral challenges requiring special resources to assist.
Despite the many challenges that my students face academically and socially they are always eager to learn new things. The majority of my teaching is using visual teaching. Our class is in need of distance learning boxes, white boards and white board markers/erasers for their online learning.
My Project
My students are special education students who attend a Title I school and 98% receive free lunches.
The magnetic blocks will allow them to learn visually and hands-on learning as they do remote learning.
As I teach them number of operations concepts, with their own kits they will be able to follow along and understand the math concepts. My students learn and understand math concepts by not direct instruction but by hands-on experience while modeling what the teacher is doing simultaneously and with independent practice problems when practicing math concepts.
