Distance Learning in Rural Oklahoma

My Students

My second-grade classroom is filled with 24 students that truly love to read and learn. They are excited to try new things. I am saddened by the fact that I won't get to finish out the school year in the classroom with my students due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

My students come from a very rural, low economic area.

The school district and parents are very supportive​ but lack the resources to provide individual classrooms and students a personal device to use during this time at home. Last year as first graders, they learned to read. This year as second graders, they are ready to read to learn.

My Project

Since the COVID-19 pandemic has closed schools in Oklahoma I have surveyed my students to see whether or not they have access at home to a device that can connect to the internet. I have eight students that do not have access, so therefore I am asking for these Chromebooks to meet that need for them. We have school licenses to some really good programs like I-Station for reading and IXL for math that my students are already familiar with and could continue to use at home if they could access the programs from there. I also had received a grant just for my classroom this year for my students to be able to use Reflex Math which is an online program for math facts mastery that my students love. I am hoping that they can all continue to use it at home as well.
