Help me give my students distance learning materials that will focus on If/Then females in STEM fields. These books and stem activities will be sent home as I teach them from my dining room.
During this unprecedented time, my students have been absolutely incredible. They come to our meetings, eager to learn, sing, and collaborate. They have been flexible and inspiring. My twenty-four second graders are bright, eager to learn, joyful, and kind.
My students enjoy working collaboratively on projects, building, playing music, reading, researching, and learning through active games and participation.
My students' families come from all over the world, and my classroom is richly diverse. Our classroom is in an urban area. These 2nd graders are inspiring in their approach to learning, the joy they bring, and the generosity they show. This year, they created a Buddy Bench and Zen Den to support all students at the school. They are always looking for ways to make the world a better place.
They are diverse in interests and culturally rich.
Students in my class speak Mandarin, Cantonese, Telugu, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Hindi, Turkish, and more. This richness of background is matched by families full of joy, strong morals, and a strong interest in a great education for their children.
While my students learn from home via zoom, they need hands-on materials.
My Project
These materials will help alleviate stress on families when going back to school. Instead of having to shop for their children, families will be able to pick up books, STEM kits, and learning materials to work from home.
My classroom always has a focus on literacy, mathematical knowledge, and writing, but at the core of all lessons, there is collaboration and joy.
It is a challenge to provide that same level of excitement on the other side of the screen, but you are making it happen with your support. Students will each receive books, playdough for science activities, a boat and airplane project and other items. The books will also help with a unit on gender equity in the sciences using the site https://www.ifthenshecan.org/ We all know that scientists and thinkers can change the world! Through our project, students will learn about strong female scientists and practice corresponding with postcards and online learning. Thank you for considering our project.
