My Students

I teach a special education resource classroom in a Title I Turnaround school. My students have a wide range of abilities and needs. All of my students are working significantly below grade level. We all share a love for learning in our classroom.

My Project

All of my 5th grade students get their own copy of the graphic novel "El Deafo" by Cece Bell. They will also receive a notebook to write their own story inspired by the graphic novel.

El Deafo tells the story of a girl who embraces her disability and learns to advocate for herself, a character all my students can relate to.

This book will help them with their transition to middle school, give us a common book to read during this period of distance learning, and inspire them to write their own book.
