Help me give my students books to read and school supplies such as crayons, markers, scissors, paper, stickers, and glue sticks to use at home for distance learning.
My second graders are voracious readers! They love to read both fiction and nonfiction books. Their favorite characters include Pete the Cat, Fly Guy, Piggie and Elephant, and Mercy Watson. They also love to read about insects, space, and plants. They are eager to learn and read about the world around them. My class is made up of general education students, children with special needs, and English as a new language students. My students love to be at school and are like little sponges, absorbing everything around them.
Unfortunately, these opportunities in the classroom have all but disappeared during remote instruction.
Families are struggling to provide access to online materials while balancing their own work and mental health. The effort and love being put forth by the children and families is heartwarming. We all miss each other and miss going to our school. My second graders are working hard alongside their families and teachers as we try to navigate this unknown world of distance learning.
My Project
Help me give my students: books to read and school supplies such as notebooks, markers, scissors, paper, stickers, and glue sticks to use at home for distance learning.Distance learning has been challenging for both parents and students. It becomes even more difficult when students do not have the basic supplies at home.
My students need school supplies and educational materials at home to continue their ability to learn while not in the school building.
My second graders are some of the hardest workers. Before we left school many of them were making tremendous progress in reading, writing, and math. I don't want them to lose these skills in their time away from school. My students live in very poor neighborhoods and many do not have the basic school supplies like crayons, glue sticks, and scissors at home. They also need markers, paper, and stickers to continue to be creative and complete art projects at home. In addition, my students need books to read for our next reading unit on character study and read aloud. My second graders want to do reading, writing and math everyday with me in Google Classroom but the lack of school supplies and books at home make it impossible for them to succeed with distance learning.
Your donations to this project will ensure my students will have the basic supplies they need to be successful with distance learning. This pandemic is hard on everybody, but students in low income homes truly do not have the resources to keep up.
