My Students
Who would have thought that school would be over, well not over, just moved to distance learning. This is new and challenging times for every student, parent, and teacher involved. My students are willing to continue to learn, even now.
My Second Grade students are resilient, persevering and overcoming the challenging obstacle that come from learning at home.
Majority of a students day is spent in the classroom. There I, as a teacher, have learned each individual students likes and dislikes. I have learned what makes them happy and sad. I still believe that it is my duty to teach to the whole child, their academic, social and emotional needs.
My Project
After teaching for five years, I know that learning materials at home are hard to come by. I serve teaching in a community where 90% of the students qualify for free lunch. These students also do not have access to wifi and many parents continue to work through these hard times. My students are willing and able to learn if they had the right materials. This is why I am requesting simple care packages for my students.
My students were not asked to start learning from home, they were told.
Their world of seeing their friends, teachers, and socializing is not the same. Therefore, if my students had the same materials that they would in the classroom then life can still seem somewhat normalized.
