Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a low socioeconomic area in my district. Even though there are some struggles at school and at home, they come to school ready to learn. For many, school is their favorite place and a place they feel cared for and safe.
Every morning as we start the day, students rate their emotional well being.
When they check-in, they tell the class how they're feeling that day on a scale from 1-5. For many, this is an opportunity to share how they are feeling and why. They love just knowing I care and their classmates care as well.
My students know I am their biggest cheerleader. When they know I care about them, they want to work even harder and persevere even through the hardest task.
My Project
With the new norm being distance learning, my students are going to need to be engaged and on task. Many students are visual learners, and a mobile whiteboard and easel will help me teach my lessons online.
I am currently setting up my at-home classroom.
A whiteboard that is large enough for everyone to see will be essential in delivering my lessons and keeping students engaged. A whiteboard will also allow me to model and demonstrate math, writing, and phonics lessons.
Now that I will be teaching online in the fall with a new group of students that I most likely won't be able to meet in person, I need to be able to deliver my lessons with ease and in a way that students can follow along.
