Our music program serves close to 150 students every year between our band classes and general piano, guitar, and orchestra class. Our bands perform for the community as much as we can by providing multiple concerts every semester in addition to marching in local parades, providing live entertainment for city festivals, and performing in local elementary schools.
These students have a true love of music that is evident by the number of hours they put in every semester practicing, and they deserve to be rewarded for their efforts.
We live in a rural area on the outskirts of a major city, and we are a Title I school with 100% of students eligible for free and reduced lunch. These conditions sometimes make it hard to provide the students with all of the ideal equipment, but that doesn't stop our kids from always doing their best!
My Project
In these unprecedented times it has become extremely important for students to have their own resources to prevent the spreading of the Covid-19 virus. Band programs like ours have limited materials, and in the past we have frequently asked students playing percussion instruments to share or rotate instruments and equipment. Students using practice pads would place them on our percussion cabinet and stand close together in a circle around the cabinet to practice.
This project will help us secure stands to mount our percussion practice pads and enough drum sticks for every student to have their own pair.
We will then be able to space out the stands with the mounted practice pads so students can practice at a safe social distance with their own pair of sticks.
