Help me give my students the opportunity to dissect chordates (perch), mollusks (squid), and annelids (nereis worm)!
This project expired on January 14, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students really enjoy learning about science, and they particularly love doing labs. They come from diverse backgrounds and enjoy learning in a variety of ways. Our school is located outside a city, and our students primarily come from low and middle income families.
My students' favorite activities involve working hands-on with materials so they can experience things for themselves.
It is one thing to see pictures and models in a textbook and quite another thing to see and work with the actual materials.
These specimens will let us do three more hands-on labs, rather than just looking at pictures online or in a textbook. My kids are a mixture of grossed out and amazed every time we do a dissection, but no one every forgets it!
Dissections are a perfect way to engage students with hands-on STEM activities.
My students ask me every day when we're doing our next dissection. They get really excited every time I say that we're doing one later in the week.
These supplies will provide dissections for three major animal phyla including chordata, mollusca, and annelida. We will compare the anatomy and major structural differences between these critters and our other dissection specimens.
