Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever heard about or experienced the therapeutic benefits of gardening? There are so many! Please help my students engage in this environmental and therapeutic hands-on project and create a No Place for Hate Peace Garden as well as have books and resources to discuss behaviors and feelings!
The students in my school struggle with many different emotional and behavioral challenges.
They come from a wide array of cultural and racial backgrounds and live in low-economic and low-resourced communities. They are dynamic children who really want to learn and succeed however many of them do not have the skills to come to class and be ready to learn. When meeting with the social worker, students are often times reluctant to participate in conversations and activities, especially when sensitive topics are involved. I know that with these books, games, and hands-on project these students can engage in conversations and learning with positive behavior and develop the skills to be successful. Please help us create our No Place for Hate Peace Garden and have materials and books to help meet our students behavioral and emotional needs.
My Project
Stickers, Play-Doh, stained glass, mosaics gems and coaster kit, sharpie markers, wood signs, welcome stone, seeds, water can, gardening tools, peace sign spinner, and gloves will be used to create a hands-on environmental project--a No Place for Hate Peace Garden! Books such as Ready-to-Use Social Skills, The Day the Crayons Quit, One, The Juice Box Bully, Self-Esteem Games, Stand up for Yourself and Your Friends, A Rainbow of Friends, The Colors of Us, The Skin You Live In, Colorful World, Stop Think and Relax workbook will be used to engage my students in conversations centered around handling anger, building social skills, anti-bullying, accepting differences, resolving conflicts, and providing character education. The students will benefit by having hands-on materials to help them learn how to appropriately handle negative feelings, instill character education, and stimulate conversations and create group commonality.
This project is so important and will greatly impact the students at my school.
Daily we struggle to independently control our emotions and problem situations. These books and our garden project will help students to realize that they are not alone and that only peace behaviors will be tolerated at our school. They will be able to join together and have materials that will help them become stable and successful students. Thank you so much for taking the time to consider our project!
