Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
For the past 5 years, Disney Music in Schools has played a huge role in our students emerging love for performing arts. Each year new students show strong enthusiasm to participate in our production and it has sparked new interests throughout the campus. As of today, we have four performing programs at our school whereas five years ago we only had one! Disney Musicals in Schools has really reached into the hearts of all of our students and teachers and has empowered us to do more and expose them to the amazing world of theater.
Our students are low-income, start school with very limited English, and are intimated to use their words, but they have rhythm in their feet, hope tingling in their hands, and their hearts are full of song!
We would love to be able to build our program and provide students with more opportunities to dream big. We need finances to support our growing performing arts programs; we definitely know it's value and how it benefits our students everyday. Our curtains will open May 16th and 17th, and we will be ready!
My Project
For several years, we have been trying to cultivate a true love for the arts. Before Disney Musicals in Schools was adopted at the school, the kids had very little knowledge about musical theater. They had no idea what these types of performances could do for their spirit. Now that performing arts has grown strong roots on our campus, student interest is higher than ever before.
By advancing the technology we have on our stage, we can continue to build our performing arts programs and share the love and excitement of the theater with even more students for years to come!
With a large cast of about sixty elementary students each year, it is very important to find ways to make each one feel like star! Providing them with quality microphones and lighting will make a huge difference in the overall production, which in turn will boost their confidence and encourage them to continue embracing the arts as they grow.
