Disney Helps Us to Discover, Inspire and Celebrate Nature!
My students need a GROWLAB II TABLETOP INDOOR GARDEN, potting soil and seeds to experience how plants support our environment, as they see the joys of nature and art.
Children are fascinated by how things grow! Growing plants in the classroom is a great way to introduce children to the joys of science and the beauty of nature. They are naturally interested and will truly love experiencing first hand how a tiny seed becomes a flower, charting with illustrations.
My students are very interested in discovering how living things work.
Our ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE and ART project is inspired by DISNEY and their outstanding support of education and environmental science. My students will discover what it takes to make plants grow, how to keep them alive and healthy and finally what happens when plants are added to our environment. It is so important for our students to have hands-on experiences, and starting plants from seeds, nurturing them and watching them grow will connect our students to nature, hopefully promoting life long interest and discovery in gardening! They will be involved with the entire process, from setting up the indoor garden, to planting the seeds and tracking their growth. For many students, this will be the first time that they will actually grow something on their own. Connecting science and art are a perfect fit too! My students will track the growing process with a pencil in hand, creating illustrations of the progress.
My Project
Our new Growlab will be such a wonderful addition to the art classroom, bright, cheery and full of life! My students will love being involved in the growing process, discovering the beauty and magic of Mother Nature. They will see all the hard work, effort and energy it takes to transform a tiny seed into a magnificent sunflower, one of the most spectacular flowers to children. Monitoring each step of the way will be done with illustrations, as students discover how to draw what they see happening. Gardening has always been very magical for me and I know my children will feel the same way.
Creating life long learners of Mother Nature is truly critical and important for our students today!
They need to see that the earth is their responsibility and how growing something so simple as a sunflower does make a difference to their environment. Mother Nature is truly beautiful and I know my students feel this but this project will let them truly know this. A great Chinese quote sums it up best, "Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand."
