I teach in an integrative 3 year old preschool classroom, meaning I have a range of students with varying needs of support. I team up with a number of specialists from speech and language therapists, physical and occupational therapists and early childhood consultants and resource teachers to help support the diverse needs of each child. While there are times, especially in the beginning of the year that I feel like I am herding kittens, their enthusiasm, curiosity, creativity and laughter are what keep me going back each year.
This project is dedicated to one of my students.
His mother wrote a letter to her company of employment during Teacher Appreciation Week and from that letter came a wonderful donation. Her child has unique visual challenges and to honor his learning style along with other visual learners I have chosen materials accordingly with my project.
My Project
I chose to order a table top light table along with manipulative pieces for exploration through Lakeshore Learning.
The light table allows students the opportunity to discover and explore through light and color.
It offers high contrast of materials and has open ended learning opportunities.
I will set up the light table in our science center where up to three children at a time can cooperatively use materials. The manipulatives allow for letter, number, color, and shape exploration. The x-rays will enhance our unit on Who We Are as we sing, dance and name common body parts as we build vocabulary.
