My Students

With the chaos of the last couple years, my students are eager to be in the classroom! They WANT to be at school interacting, learning, and trying new experiments with their peers. We focus heavily on Collaboration, Responsibility, Effort, Endurance, and Growth. These students know what it means to persevere through difficult times as they continue to face daily challenges. They are such a great example to me!

“Wow!,” “How/Why did that happen?,” “What if we try this?” are just a few of my favorite exclamations from my students as they experiment and discover new things.

This is my first year teaching 5th grade after several years in lower grades and I LOVE my students and this age group. I love to listen to them explore, experiment, try new things, and get excited when they solve a “mystery”. I am in charge of Science and Social Studies and teach 75+ students each day. I am always on the lookout for active, engaging lessons, interactive play, and experiments to keep my students guessing as to what we’re going to do next.

My Project

These materials and supplies will give us the tools to experiment and discover the properties and phases of matter. We will be able to experiment with physical change and chemical reactions. Having some of the basic supplies we repeatedly use will alleviate me continually bringing things from home or asking for help from parents.

By donating to this project you will give students the opportunity to question the properties of matter, do hands-on experiments, and test their hypotheses.

They are so excited to be in class performing experiments, discovering what happens when they mix vinegar and baking soda, making volcanos, and learning that pennies were made with different materials before 1982 and see how they react when emerged in a variety of solutions.

My school doesn't have a set of lesson plans for Science or Social Studies and as a new teacher to 5th grade I am constantly looking for something to help engage the students while teaching the expected curriculum. As a teacher I love to learn new things and want to instill that in my students. We are all on a journey of discovery we should have a little fun along the way!
