My Students
My class is made up of an energetic group of students, some of whom have never seen a classroom prior to this school year! With a wide range of skills and experiences, our class is made up of students who are nearly ready to read and others who have not held a pencil or written a word.
More than a third of our students come from low-income households.
Many have not been exposed to authentic literature or received support at home.
My Project
Students need to touch books throughout the school day. These books will establish our class library. As a newly created Kindergarten class, we're building our classroom from the ground up. Many of my students do not have books at home.
When a student picks up a book, their eyes light up as they discover new places and experiences.
With only a handful of worn books in our classroom, these books will bring smiles to an entire classroom. Reading during literacy instruction, on their own during Read To Self, or as part of our cross-curricular activities, books bring the learning to life.
