My students need a new Omnikin Ball and pinnies in order to learn a new sport! Most children have never heard of the game and it's my goal to introduce them to it!
Traditional sports are wonderful and the skills they teach our children are valuable, but tradition sports do not always allow for individual student success. Omnikin Ball is a new sport that allows students of all skill levels to be successful in the physical education classroom.
Students come to class ready to learn each day, but are limited by the lack of equipment.
We strive to educate students to live healthy, active lifestyles, both in and out of the classroom. Without the equipment we need to vary our programming, we will not be able to achieve that goal.
We are a third year charter school that is continuously growing and expanding each year. Our students come from many different backgrounds, both ethnically and economically. Some students travel an hour each day simply to attend our school. Every day, students come to school excited and ready to learn. They enjoy participating in class, playing sports after school, and participating in other extracurricular activities. We are a tight-knit community here and we are very proud of our students and faculty. Our parents are incredibly involved in their children's education and are very strong supporters of our school.
My Project
Traditional sports are incredibly important. They teach many lifelong skills that our students desperately need. Traditional sports can also limit student participation and foster competitive environments. In order for all students to be successful in physical education, educators need to vary the sports taught. Omnikin Ball fills this gap for students and promotes a cooperative learning environment.
Omnikin Ball is very different from traditional sports like football and basketball. It focuses on sportsmanship, cooperative skills, and communication, all of which are vital skills within school and within the work force. Omnikin Ball also involves a lot of strategical thinking. Students who are not as skilled in tradition sports have the opportunity to be important team players by using their mind and their body.
Omnikin Ball fosters a positive learning environment while preparing students for life, both inside and outside of the classroom.
This project will expose students to a new game they've never seen before.
It will also open up our classroom discussions to include cultures from around the world, specifically Canada and France where the sport was invented and popularized. Omnikin Ball is not just about playing a game, it is about exposing students to an entire world and culture they never knew of before hand.
