Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a sprawling city in southern California. Despite the many amazing museums and cultural centers found in the city, many of my students have never set foot in one. They are lacking life experiences to use as a scaffold for learning.
My students are bright-eyed, inquisitive, and eager to find out about their amazing world.
Parents are hard-working but often lack the opportunity to expose their kids to these learning experiences. I want to give students hands-on learning experiences in my classroom to help them build a better understanding of their world.
My Project
Our world is facing many challenges in the coming years - lack of fresh water, global warming, pollution, limited resources to name a few. My students understand that many of these world challenges will be inherited by their generation and they will need to find solutions.
Today's students need to gain a strong understanding of impacts of human behavior on the environment, in order to be equipped to solve the environmental issues of tomorrow.
The Global Challenges Book Set will broaden their knowledge of world-wide environmental issues. Students can use the Global Challenges Project-Based STEM Kit to construct, analyze, and refine possible remedies. These activities will reinforce the skills necessary to be a scientist in the 21st century.
