Discovering Geometry

My students need 2 TI-Nspire calculators that possess the ability to dynamically manipulate geometric shapes and objects.

I teach high school Geometry that is typically composed of freshmen and sophomores. The school has always tried to be on the cutting edge for new ideas and approaches and is frequently involved in pilot programs.

We have just adopted a new curriculum for the math department that focuses on student discovery. To encourage this student lead discovery, it is expected that students have access to software and technology that allows them to explore ideas and formulate questions without a great deal of assistance from instructors.

Texas Instruments has recently developed a new calculator, the TI-Nspire, that presents students more freedom to analyze and synthesize material. The Nspire allows students to more easily interact with mathematics and will encourage more student self discovery. We would like to purchase a classroom set of these calculators which will give students access to a dynamic software program that is necessary for them to succeed in our new curriculum.

If you are able to help, your donation will help us to begin the task of funding a new breed of mathematics classrooms where students rely more upon themselves to seek out answers and less upon the instructors.
