Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title 1 school. The majority of our students, approximately 80%, are economically disadvantaged. Approximately 49% of our students are English language learners. Our school has about 2,000 students of which approximately 75% are Hispanic/Latino. My classroom consists primarily of Juniors and Seniors who are studying AP Environmental Science.
For many of the students in my classroom this is their first AP class.
My classroom is filled with students committed to learning about their world through science and improving their own lives by taking a challenging class. Many aspire to continue your their education at a university. Our school makes every effort to make AP classes available to as many students as possible in order to give them access to a rigorous education and to give them a chance at earning college credit.
My Project
Help give our students the best chance possible to compete on the Environmental Science Advance Placement test and reward their dedication and commitment to learning about the environment!
Our school encourages students to challenge themselves by taking Advance Placement courses.
Our students have enthusiastically responded by signing up in great numbers for classes like AP Environmental Science. In this project we seek to provide these students with additional support to help them study for the Advance Placement exam in Environmental Science by obtaining a classroom license allowing every student to have access to online test preparation. This past year our students raved about how much help this program provided them in preparing to take their AP Environmental Science exam. We could could not have provided this resource to our students without the generous support provided by many people through Donor's Choose.
As we prepare for the 2018-2019 school year, we again would like to provide this resource to our AP Environmental Science students. The primary focus of our request is to provide this support for the environmental Science course. However, a bonus this year is that the class license will also provide the same level of support for other AP classes the students may be taking in addition to AP Environmental Science. Without a class license for these resources our students will not receive this support as many of them come economically challenged backgrounds.
