Help me give my students the opportunity to dive into an exciting and hands-on world of science. Watching ladybugs come alive, ants building tunnels and growing plants in the classroom would create many educational discussions around science.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Kindergarten students have just come to school for the first time! They are learning how to have patience, sit appropriately, work together and control their bodies as well as academics. They are excited by music, movement, art, pretend play and new experiences. Kindergarten is a year filled with firsts, especially for the majority of my students who did not go to preschool. Many of my students come from bilingual or non English speaking homes. The students in my class also come from low-income families as well. Although they will face different challenges this year, they are so excited to grow into leaders and lifetime learners.
My students are just beginning their journey through education and want to have the same memorable kindergarten experience that I, and many of you had some years ago.
Kindergarten is a place where all are accepted, dreams are created and memories are made for a lifetime. My students love coming to school because it is an escape for them and allows them to be whoever they want to be. Please help me as I try to keep their passion for learning alive and help them to reach their full potential!
My Project
In many classrooms, these days science is pushed aside for the sake of time. I want to provide my kindergarten students with exciting and memorable science experiences. With the rapidly growing and changing world around us, many new jobs in the science field are being created. Encouraging students to discover science will help to one day fulfill these new jobs and potentially lead to new successes in the field.
The learning from these products cannot be artificially created through pictures or videos, only these materials will allow my students to participate in enriching and exciting investigations that will build a love for science within them.
The ladybug kit, ant farm, root viewer and sensory dome are not just one-day lessons. Over time students will be able to see and document changes first hand. These products will be paired with literacy to provide students with multiple opportunities to develop a variety of speaking and listening, writing and reading skills while making observations during their investigations. These materials would help build investigative skills, questioning skills and patience within my students.
The magnetic wands will allow my students to focus on a state standard I have not been able to teach, due to lack of materials. With the wands, students will be able to experiment in a magnetism sensory table and document their findings in a collaborative setting.
The selected books will pair with two different investigations and topics. The insect book will pair perfectly with our ladybug investigation and the season's book with our current topic: the four seasons and weather.
I have chosen these specific materials due to the student-led discussions we have had in class. Please help to make my students' dreams come true and fill them with a passion for knowledge.
