Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a fourth grade teacher at Bateman Elementary School in the Chicago Public Schools. I want to take my students to see "Deep Sea 3D" at the IMAX Theatre on Navy Pier and treat them to lunch. Over the next few months, my class will be studying animal adaptation and how animals need each other to survive. The film description says it is about exotic sea creatures and their dependence on eachother for survival. After studying from a textbook and participating in class activities, I think they would benefit from getting a visual example of what they spent so much time studying. I think this film would be an excellent and exciting end to our studies! I also think they would love it! Most of my students have never been even close to Navy Pier or the IMAX Theatre and many of them will never have that experience while they are young. I want them to be able to experience some of Chicago's culture by visiting one of our city's main attractions. Unfortunately, for the past few years we have not had a field trip budget. Our children are responsible for paying for all of the costs if they wish to attend a field trip. Many of them cannot afford this cost, so I would like to be able to pay for the bus, film and lunch at McDonalds for my entire class, including four adults. I am very excited about this trip! I know it will be an unforgettable experience for all of my students.
