My students need Maker Space items that use technology to learn about the world around them and develop their STEM (a curriculum based on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) skills in an engaging way.
I teach in a large elementary school with many diverse needs. I have Kindergarten, first and second graders in a six day rotation. I teach them technology during this rotation. I have so many younger students, and their needs are different from older students. I need materials and supplies that support their needs, skills, and little hands. I also have students with special needs, fine motor skill issues, visual issues and more where this project would help them engage in learning.
I am looking for special technology items for my students that would teach them by engaging them in problem solving in a coding kind of way.
My Project
The Dash Robot, Code-A-Pillar, Code and Go Mouse, and the extension kits that you can get with them are true inspirational items for 21st Century learning and our STEM goals. These items require basic knowledge in technology, math, language and more.
When in our Learning Media Center, which has a Maker Space, students can have hands-on experiences with how robotics work, and how their understanding of coding skills is just the beginning in our technologically rich world.
Each of the items selected are kid-friendly, large, visual, engaging, and may seem like just a game to make an object work, but in reality, students are learning how to code for technology, problem solve, debug "programs" without even knowing that they are doing technological skills.
